About Alison Cordner

Since as far back as I can remember, I have loved performing. I used to daydream about being a world famous dancer even as a young child. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I became an adult without my dreams being realised so now I spend my time daydreaming about my latest aerial hoop routine instead!

I began ballet dancing when I was four years old and tap dancing when I was around eight. I performed in several productions at Woodville Halls in Gravesend with the Carol Ann School of Dance as well as completing my ballet grading exams.

When I got to secondary school and discovered the world of Performing Arts I gave up both ballet and tap and concentrate more on the performance side of things including music and drama. I studied Music at GCSE and moved on to Performance Studies at A Level.

I have performed in several amateur theatre productions over the years, including playing the Mum in a version of the play ‘East’ by Steven Berkoff and an Aladdin pantomime! I love going to the theatre and the more abstract the production the better. I love anything by DV8 Physical Theatre, I was totally blown away with their ‘Can We Afford This’ production in 2000.

In 2014 I began pole dancing and I was hooked instantly. I love the strength side of pole, it has given me so much confidence in myself and I am constantly amazed at what my body is capable of. Six months after my first pole lesson I took an aerial hoop class which I loved even more. My absolute favorite thing is putting together combinations of hoop moves and choreographing routines. I took up aerial silks in 2016 when joining Athena Fitness as a student. Since then I have attended workshops in static trapeze, aerial cube, aerial sphere, aerial hammock and flying pole.

I took part in the Athena Fitness Circesque group performances in both 2017 & 2018 on hoop and silks and performed a solo hoop piece in 2018. I came first in the instructor category of the Kent regional Aerial Performance Championships 2019.

I began instructing for Athena Fitness in 2018, which I have loved every minute of. As I am a college tutor by day, I have a University Diploma in Education and Training, which has meant I have been able to transfer my teaching skills and knowledge into a different environment.

I passed my Spin City course in Beginners Aerial Hoop Instructor Training in 2018. As well as these qualifications, I have training certificates for Emergency First Aid at Work and IOSH Managing Safely.

I have a DBS Clearance certificate and have attendance certificates for Autism Awareness, PREVENT and Questioning For Learning workshops.
